I finally got a knife done. A little drop point hunter. 1095 blade steel, 416 guard, and stabilized walnut handle Comments good bad or otherwise are always welcome.
Yep, gorgeous! If you don't mind my asking, Brad, who stabilized the walnut and did you find the wood improved after stabilizing? I once talked with Mike at WSSI who said that walnut doesn't stabilize that well. I have a chunk of claro walnut that I've have yet to use. Wasn't sure I should stabilize or use as is. Jim T
I got the walnut from the burl source. Everything I have bought from there has been great to work with. I know it dose not need to be finished but a little Danish oil makes the wood pop
Thanks guys for the comments. I did a full quench with clay on the back. Whenever I do an edge quench my temper line (I get beat up on my terminology a lot)comes out smooth. Clay quenching is an art in itself, I wish I was better at it. I have read a bit about knifemakers just using an interrupted quench and getting some cool looking hamons.
