I am really new to this form of art, however I would like to obtain some knife blanks in this style to begin this new adventure. I have read many of your tutorials but have no equipment as of yet. Do you have any blades that I can try before I purchase the necessary equipment. Just retired and looking for more habits to replace my presently vacated work status. Thanks Dragon
Hi and welcome! I know a few makers who started with reasonably inexpensive factory blades and put the scales on it themselves. It's a whole lotta fun doing the finishing. The only experience I have with a vendor that sells blades/kits is Jantz Supply in Davis Oklahoma. Others have tried Knifekits.com and seem to be happy with them. It's hard for a custom maker to sell a bare blade for $40, but you can get a pretty sweet factory made kit not costing an arm and a leg. Dan
Welcome to the forums. As Dan mentioned, there are a couple of places that sell knife blanks or full kits. However, as they are US based, the exchange rate and shipping costs can be prohibitive. Also keep in mind that you really don't need a lot of equipment to get started making your own knives. It's nice to have the expensive toys to make things go faster but all you really need is a handful of files, a hacksaw, a drill press (or even a hand drill) and a good supply of sandpaper (most of which you'll need to build a kit or finish a blank anyway).
