Anyone use one ? they take 1/2" X 18" belts. Kind of small compact.....but look real cheap ? price is right tho (under $50)......

Never tried one but I would assume it would not be cost effective really. The reason many guys use the larger machines even at a higher price, is the abrasive cost savings. A 2x72 belt costs about double what a 1x30 does but has 5 times the surface area. I have not looked for the 18 inch belts but my guess would be that they are not cheap in comparison and likely have a poor selection of grits, without the option for quality abrasives. What you would notice is a belt that size will wear out extremely fast on any amount of steel grinding. For the price a 1x30 would be a better investment in that budget range and be far more versatile. My bet is that a couple good files would remove steel just as fast or faster than the B&D
