    Hey all!

My name is Bob and I am a complete newb to knife making and have yet to start my first project, but I have finally accumulated what I need and I am ready to pop on my first knife...

Just a bit about myself... I am a business owner in my real life, selling custom wheels and tires, and in my own time I have a few hobbies I am quite dedicated too. Amongst other things, I am an avid amateur woodworker and try hard to work traditionally using strictly handtools for all aspects, but I must confess to firing up machinery when the job dictates (think home construction projects rather than furniture for fun). Although my wife would say I have a tendency to hoard, I tell her it isn't hoarding because my stuff is cool! I collect many things, and among them, my favourite has always been pocket knives. Hence the natural progression from woodworking and collecting to making my own knives.

Hopefully soon I will be able to post some completed projects, but until then I am sure I will be lurking and posing question for you more experienced people to help me with. Until then, thanks for having me!

    Bob

Welcome Bob. Judging by your introduction you will fit right in. Feel free to ask away.

    Welcome to CKM Bob.

Please, don't lurk too much. Jump in and ask questions. Folks here are always willing to explain the process -- and the difficulties.

And some of us wouldn't mind seeing your collected knives either.

Thanks gents! I will try and get some pics posted for sure. My collection of knives isn't huge buy any means, but I have a few sweet ones for sure. I have always had an affinity for the French farmer Laguiole patterns and have a bunch from the region of Aubrac there, but I am always on the lookout for vintage American folders etc.

As for questions, I am sure they will be coming! Just last night I put steel to grinder for the first time and the results were, shall we say, interesting? Haha! Actually, I am not disappointed for my first attempt at a basic shape, but there is definitely a need for guidance and practice. Good thing it was a piece of scrap steel I jacked from a friends recycling barrel at his shop! Lol! I wanted to try a few things before tearing into the 1084 I picked up from the kind folks at knifemaker.ca...
