Just need to add the finishing touches to this KN48 8" chef's knife shown hovering on its magnetic stand in the light box. Made from 154CM, 416 stainless bolster and dyed stabilized poplar burl from WoodStab. I really focused on getting the pinch-grip balance perfect on this one. It's a joy to wield. Thanks for looking! Dan
Tom, it's stabilized dyed poplar burl. I got it from a vendor on Etsy named WoodStab. Their process is pretty good. All the voids are well filled.
I should've read the very top before I asked...sorry bout that and I was gonna ask one more but you answered that one 2. But I've got one more, if ya don't mind. The transition from the knife blade to the handle is really sweet. When you bolster that, how do you heat up the pin? Do you use acetylene? I tried it once by heating up a pin in the forge but by the time I got it out and into the blade and started hammering...it was already getting cool and I didn't get it the way I wanted it.
Tom, I do the pinning like I learned from Cal @FORGE. I think Cal's original post lost its photos, so I was doing up a tutorial over here: https://www.canadianknifemaker.ca/index.php?threads/making-a-full-tang-bolster.3796/ Dan
