This is an 7" chef's knife made from AEB-L 0.130" the blade is a hair under 2" at the belly. Testing around HRC 59-60 against the files. The handle is flame yellow birch with black fibre spacer from the bolster back. The pins are 1/8" 416 stainless and 3/16" brass mosaic. Bolster is made from 416 stainless pinned with 416 pins of course. Flat ground, I took the bevel to 0.010" before making the cutting edge. It weighs 6.2 oz (176 g) with the balance being very slightly toward the blade. It cuts like a dream and will hopefully make many great meals. Here are some shots from the light box. There's a couple of things I would do differently in the next version, but all-in-all I think it went well. This build was detailed here in the WIP section: http://www.canadianknifemaker.ca/index.php?threads/full-tang-chefs-knife-build.1648/ Thanks for looking! Dan
Awsome knife Dan. Think I'm going to make a chef's knife here in my next batch. Might even try my first attempt at metal bolsters... maybe lol
That is an awesome looking chefs knife. But i would love to see something different. You have awesome work in progress tutorials. I would love to see a dagger or bowie knife in progress. I only ask because i want to learn.
Thanks guys! Jeff, I've been focusing pretty heavily on kitchen knives. I've decided that's the direction I want to steer. So let this be a call to other experienced members who can do a W.I.P. on a straight razor, Bowie, dagger, sword, kukri or whatever interesting edged object is in the works. There is a lot of talent out there. Only need a camera. Dan
I have been taking lots of pictures of my slipjoint. Will have a wip to post soon. Just want to post it all at once
