This is a larger camp style knife i just finished up this afternoon. I guess not totally finished as it needs to be etched and have an edge put on. Anyway this one is 11 inches long, 6.25 blade with a 4.75 inch handle. The stock is 3/16 1084 and is my first half decent saber grind (if we can call it that). The scales are black canvas micarta over .030 toxic green liners. Due to how thin the liners are, they show up slightly darker than typical toxic, since they let seem to be less that fully opaque at this thickness and allow the scale colors to influence them. Three 1/8 peened stainless pins were used on this one, however I now kind of wish i had thrown a lanyard tube on the back. This was my first time trying to get a polish on canvas, and found that it really helped to wet sand for everything after 180 grit. As for using a belt past 120, it was not even worth the effort as it just wanted to burn at the speed my grinder runs. Found that i had to wet sand to 600 then buff for best results.
your right Brandon it needs a lanyard , please send this priority post to me and try again !!! (please put a makers on it before shipping) !! LOL !! nice work bud !
I like it Grayzer, looks like a great chopper and that canvas handle look is starting to grow on me Ill have to try it out Good job!!!
That's a very nice looking beast. if it was in my hand while sitting in my chair while camping i'd be looking around to see what I can chop and cut up. Then I probably wouldn't chop anything cause I wouldn't want to scuff it up. Lol
Great looking knife. I can see it getting a lot of use as a utility cutter. I'll have to try wet sanding canvas micarta. I've always wished I could get a better finish on it.
Thanks Chinny. I was pretty happy with it and so is the new owner. I took that one to him and two others so he could see more of my work, and he ended up taking all three. I have had quite a bit of positive feedback so far on this profile so I may do up a few more in this pattern.
