I started working on my makers mark and just wanted to see what everyone thinks. I may still adjust it a bit and I have to figure out how to rotate "custom knives" so that it isn't up side down but for the most part this will be it. I'm definately open to any input, opinions or ideas. Here it is and thanks for looking.

I like. I like that you added the location too. I've often picked up an old knife and wondered where it came from. What did you use to create your image?

Only slightly off topic... I would really love to see a Knifemakers' mark registry where you could look up a mark and find information about the maker.

Thanks myth. I figured I should add location even though I don't have a common name.
I used corel draw for this one but may have to go to cad if I can't figure out how to flip the writing.

I think that would be a great idea.

Thanks Rob. I have too much going on to try to figure out how to make it myself but in the future I will look into it. For now I will contact Ernie. Seems that he is the top guy to go to.

That's awesome Icho I think that's an excellent mark!!! I did notice (might be my eyes) the maple leaf on the right might be the slightest bit lower than the one on the left? But definatley a very promotable mark...Good work!

Oh that sucks. Hope its not too serious. Anyone know of another source for stencils?

Thanks. I will be straightening and centering today when I get home. I'm pretty sure the location is not centered either.
Kind of weird. I can't see my mark in this thread or in photobucket. I am on my phone.

Icho, I use T.U.S Technologies in the states the first set will cost about $30 for a 5 stencil sheet and $13 there after because it will be in their files. They use the brown/gold stencil paper which can give up to 1000 etches per stencil and they usually arrive in a week after you send the design. Give them a rough size and they will send you a proof that when you print it will be actual size so you can confirm that is what you want. I've been using them for a year and still using the original stencil. Hope this helps!!!

I cant seem to see the pic on my computer or phone either.... Im sure it is very nice though haha. For what its worth i make my own stencils, and have been getting great results. Seem to be getting quite a few etches as i am still on my first stencil and have done about 15 etches so far and notice no difference. Its a bit of work setting up and building a light box but the versatility is awesome. I can now etch any design or word i want, whether its a logo or a customers name. Its not something that would happen a lot but its nice to have the option to do it that way, and not have it cost much as i dont have to have a full sheet made.

Where can I find the info to make my own stencils?

It's been too long since I've used Corel to be of any help. Illustrator is a lot easier for dealing with text.

One other thing. Have you printed some tests at actual size? You might find switching to a sans-serif font makes your text easier to read.

Well I figured out how to flip the text. I also straightened and centered the text and maple leafs. This could possibly be it. Here is the latest.

I tried printing and it did turn out good. I couldn't find sans-serif in my list of fonts but after going thru the whole list I did change the text slightly.

I'm hoping to order in the next few days so if anyone has any final suggestions, type away.

Thanks again everyone for the help so far!

Sorry, my fault for not being specific. Sans-serif isn't a font, it's a type of font.

Serif fonts are ones with the little feet on the bottom, like Times or Palatino. Sans-serf fonts,as you could guess, don't have the feet, like Helvetica or Verdana. Basically, serif fonts work best in print (books, magazines, etc.) because the feet help guide your eyes along the line. Sans-serif work best for online and when you don't have long line lengths. They're also easier to read at small sizes. And if that hasn't put you to sleep yet, don't forget you can also play around with the kerning ( the space between each letter ). Increasing the kerning can make reading tiny fonts easier too.

Thanks Myth. That is very interesting. I never put that much thought into fonts or styles. it really makes sense to me. I have heard the term sans serif and I just assumed it was a font.

Well my first ever makers mark stencil has been ordered and mailed to me. Now I just have to wait till it gets here. Its pretty much the one in the last pic. I hope I decided on the correct size.
