Okay before you beat me up I needed a vice on the weekend and all good places were closed

So bought a princess auto vice yep it was bad. just the odd time full tang knives had pins going in harder than they should have and needed a little adjusting.
Two hidden tang knives; First one the hole was on an angle and took hours of filing and sanding to get straightened out.
Yesterday was hours of trying to fix another hole, a few hours into it I realized sanding stabilized wood is very slow.
Took a break and checked the 6" drill bit against the table top and everything was good.
Toss that handle in the garbage after making another one and once ready for drilling I triple checked everything. Wood in vice nice straight and tight and check against the drill bit through full range of motion and the path was on an angle? well that is odd. Check wood alignment in regards to the work surface and it is crooked.
Investigation showed that the fixed jaw of the vice was not square and offset a 5" block of wood almost 1/16" at the top and 1/8" at the bottom.
So that vice got tossed and I broke out the 40 year old machinist vice I got at a garage sale for $5 ant it is perfect.
the culprit in making me almost give up on hidden tang knives

I really don't need any more weekend vices, anyway.

I had a similar experience with a cross-slide vise from Princess Auto. But to give them some credit, every so often there's a jewel among the rocks.

    John,

A few years ago I bought the Grizzly version of the same vise. It was like $35 with free shipping. (Who can ship a vise for free? That's crazy.)

    I ordered this https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B005W16WT0/ref=pe_386430_121528420_TE_dp_i1
last weekend. It's supposed to be pretty good once one tweaks it a little. I have a thing for tweaking.

I will be sure to let you all know how the turd polishing goes.
